AVOID TEARING BY

FOLLOWING THESE TIPS!

Perineal Massage: Starting around the 34th week of pregnancy, gentle perineal massage with a water-soluble lubricant can help increase the flexibility of the perineal tissues. This may reduce the likelihood of tearing during childbirth.

Warm Compresses: Applying warm compresses to the perineum during the pushing stage of labor can help relax the tissues and reduce the risk of tearing.

Positioning During Delivery: Different birthing positions can affect the risk of tearing. Squatting and hands-and-knees positions may reduce pressure on the perineum compared to lying on the back. Discuss various birthing positions with your healthcare provider.

Controlled Pushing: Avoiding rapid or forceful pushing during the second stage of labor may help minimize stress on the perineum. Controlled, gradual pushing when you feel the urge may allow the tissues to stretch more naturally.

Water Birth: Laboring or giving birth in water can help reduce perineal trauma. We like to think about it this way… When you’re not feeling great, are achy, or in pain, think of how much better you feel after a bath. Use warm water therapy to your advantage.

If this is a fear of yours, take the time to watch birth videos. Watch how happy Mama’s are the second baby is born. Non of them have stopped to discuss tearing.
